Tobin Scientific Facilitates LifeMine Therapeutics Move to Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute
Cambridge Life Science Company’s Relocation Adds to Gloucester’s Growing Biotech Community
Gloucester, MA: Tobin Scientific was at Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute on Monday, June 8th delivering freezers full of biological samples for new tenant LifeMine Therapeutics, relocating to Gloucester from Cambridge, MA. Opened in October 2018, The Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute (GMGI) is the world’s first research facility dedicated to marine genomics. GMGI conducts marine genomics research that not only fulfills local economic needs by supporting fisheries science, but also by making advancements in biotechnology and biomedicine using marine organisms as models. GMGI scientists identify beneficial properties and chemicals within marine creatures and create “biosynthetic” replicas, hence using genomics to sustainably produce them.
LifeMine Therapeutics works developing new drugs from eukaryotic microbes (such as algae, protozoa, fungi, and helminths) by combining Genomics with AI and Synthetic Biology. Tobin Scientific’s redundant power trailers were deployed for the move of LifeMine’s biologic assets and freezers to ensure all arrived at the new location same-day and work could resume nearly immediately. LifeMine’s installation within the GMGI campus will provide for faster transfer and economies to the benefit of both organizations.
